Paul Johnson’s commentary (“The Sickness of the West,” March 15, p. 15) points to many current leaders as “a sad bunch of flawed mediocrities.” Indeed they are, but he would have more credibility himself if a couple of years ago he hadn’t given a ringing endorsement to George Bush, a man who as much as anyone was responsible for the mess we’re in now.
