My parents were brought up during the “Great Depression”. This means that when I was seeking employment there was strong encouragement to seek employment with the government because of job security. I have therefore spent most my working life as a government employee, which has turned out to be expensive in two way. One limited work opportunities and experiences that government employees have, and a much lower income than what is experienced in private enterprise. It will be interesting if this mindset by parents will be established again for the next generation.
