Take a Time-Out — Friday Links

Yesterday afternoon my wife and I left the kids behind and spent some time at the beach. We saw a beautiful sunset and it was wonderful.  We live about 20 minutes from the beach, yet we rarely take advantage of it. Why not?  I realized that unless I schedule time out, the business of life will get in the way and take over all my time.  I’ve decided to schedule an afternoon off every few weeks and go to the beach or do something fun.  I wish I was able to be a bit more spontaneous, but the truth is, I’m not.

Are you able to detach from work easily or do you have to almost force yourself to take time off?

One of my long term goals is to live closer to the beach. As far as detaching from work, I recently had 3 weeks off and I noticed I didn’t start to relax until well into the second week. I am not sure it had anything to do with work.

Neal, I think all of us have something similar in our lives. I live next to a great museum and rarely go see it (maybe once a year). But now that I’m moving, I’m going to miss it. So I need to go take advantage of it one last time before we move!

Thanks for the guest post! :)
