My brother and I (now 15) have owned a small company that makes plastic id cards for passes at fairs and events since we were 8 and it has been a great experience. The business experience has also helped in school and clubs. So, as a suggestion to parents, help your kids start a business early and you will not regret it!

My two youngest got the taste of "earning" last year at the ages of 4 and 6 back home during the annual festival...selling lemonade no less. $57 bucks by the end of the day. Not too bad for those two lil runts first time out the gate. Now with my son the selling bug really bit him, he has been trying to sell back to me my own landscape rocks ever since.

Work ethic is a very important value in our home....and occasionally the phrase rolls off my tongue "honey, if you don't work, you don't eat".....they get it, there is no loafing around when chores need to be done.

Yes I do think kids have something to offer up as small business owners. They just have to find their niche, have a good encouraging support system behind them but not banking them entirely or bailing them out when they stumble.

I previewed Cameron Johnson, great link and wow 15K a month. whoa! Very encouraging for parents and kids alike that spot that potential in our youth and not suppress it!!

This is a testiment to what I have always stated! Children are a product of their environment - whether it be business knowledge or otherwise.

I have four children and I am bot raising employees! I'm raising business owners! They all by the time they were 9 have made their own spending money and been responsible for a budget. If they don't have enough money for the new item of choice, too bad!

Children should realize that money is not given freely, that it's worked for and they will be better adults because if this knowledge.

I also teach my children of the value of an education. You go to college not only to gain your own business expertise, but also to find the top workers for your own company. All graduates are looking for offer letters. Who says it can't be from a fellow classmate :)

No idea. :) My first kid is about negative 6 months old.

But I'll definitely keep it in mind 5-10 years down the road.

Wo,

Do you have any specific ideas on what they might want to do? At what age do you think it would make sense to give this a try?

What an awesome idea! When it comes to kids, we always think allowance, but it can be so much more.

I can't wait to try this with my kids in a few years.
