Would you like to know my trick to get top holiday gifts for free? Here are a few of my quick hometown holiday shopping ideas.
Undershop.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t do any shopping whatsoever. I’m saying the best gift you could give yourself, your family, your friends and your community is what I call “sober shopping.”
What is “sober shopping”? It’s simply thinking like a big boy or girl before you go to the shopping temples – the malls. Express your appreciation and love for your loved ones by, well, by expressing it. Don’t cheapen your gift or the person you are giving to by overspending.
Let’s be honest. You buy many of the gifts you buy because you think you are expected to. The problem is, Madison Avenue has sold this story to everyone and we’ve all bought into it.
One in four Americans still needs to get out of credit card debt for gifts bought last year. This is just dumb. If you give gifts you can’t afford, it’s actually dishonest and selfish. It’s dishonest and selfish because you are trying to give something that is not yours to give. Anyway, would you want to receive a gift that the giver could not afford?
Of course not.
Many people find themselves in tenuous financial situations lately. Why lie to yourself and others by spending money you don’t have? Agree with your family and friends to do something unique this year (and hopefully many years to come). Give of yourself this year – give a gift that comes more from your heart and less from the mall. And with that said and done, you’ll see that you will be saving money on your shopping bills this holiday.
