Why This 25 Year Old Should NOT Try To Make Extra Money

Has it ever occurred to you that you shouldn’t always try to make extra money?

On Monday, a faithful (young) Wealth Pilgrim reader was lamenting the fact that he was stuck in a job he hated. To make matters worse, he wasn’t even well paid – he reported an inablity to save for his future. This bothered him a great deal.

Many readers had fantastic ideas on how to help our young Jedi…..and I came up with a few ideas of my own. Here’s a 2 minute 20 second video sharing my thoughts.

Am I full of it? Do you agree with my suggestion? And on another note, how do you like the new look? I’m trying to jazz it up a lilttle. Am I “fresh” or just square. You be the judge.

 On to other exciting news.

I’ve joined the Financial Samurai Alexa Ranking Challenge.  This is a collaborative effort of 50 like-minded bloggers.  We’re trying to help each other rise up the Alexa Ranking system.  What I love about this group is that the folks involved are all trying to help each other.  Kind of reminds you of what goes on in Washington D.C. eh?

In any event, I’m going to include a list of posts written by some of the members of the challenge.  Rather than detail each article, I thought I’d give you a few key words and invite you to check out those that interest you most.

Enjoy!

Is Your Life Too Expensive? Harvard Study Provides Solution

If you do things or buy things that are too expensive, a recent Harvard study solves the problem ( or at least it can really provide insight into the solution).  I read about it in a cool new book, ” The Secret Language of Money” by Dr. David Krueger.

Here’s a 3 minute video sharing a fascinating study done at the venerated college.  I think you’ll find the results astounding…I know I did.

After you watch the video, let me know how you are going to apply the lessons of the study….and when.

What Do “Survivor” and Personal Finance Have To Do With Each Other? Plenty..

Contestants on the TV show “Survivor” fight to stay on the island. If they are successful, they get to continue to fight and suffer.

Somebody explain to me how that’s a “win” for anyone.

How well does that describe what you do to yourself by way of your finances?  Do you struggle with your budget or spending?  Investing or career…..yet continue to justify your actions so you can continue to struggle?  Are you working really hard….but not sure why?

If so, you need to find a solution.  Right?

This 2 minute video gives you a one-way ticket off the island.  I’d be very interested to know if you’ve found a way to stop struggling.  We all have our own “islands” we need to vacate.  Share your best ideas on how to do so please.

What Is Your Definition of Self-Worth?

Do you define yourself as what you have or what you do professionally?   Deep down….I think we all do a little bit.

I know I do it too much.

It’s really a shame because when we do this, we rob ourselves (and others) by failing to share our true wealth – at least that’s how I see it.

My 10 year-old gave me a great wake up call the other day and helped me turn this around.

I wanted to share this story in a 3 minute video to give you the same reminder my little one gave me.   I’d love to know if you ever fall into this trap and what you do to stay out of it.

Your Secret Weapon To Achive Your Goals in 2009 – It’s Not Too Late

What is the one reason why most of us fail to achieve our goals? It’s not lack of knowledge or commitment.

This puzzled me for years and I only got clarity on it yesterday after my interview with Adam Baker from Man Vs Debt.

Watch this 3 minute video and tell me if you think this answers the question.  I believe you’ll agree it does.

The Secret Outsourcing Mistake and How To Fix It

Does frugality mean you should always do whatever you can to save money?  Is outsourcing for suckers?

Or should you outsource whenever possible?

How can you strike the right balance?  In this 4 minute video I’ll not only show you how to find that balance, I’ll also show you what my hair looks like on a bad hair day.

Is this  discussion about balance something that would help you?  Is my hair really as bad as I think it is?  Please let me know.

RED BULL FOR YOUR (FINANCIAL) SOUL

Have you ever lost your motivation? (Thankfully, it doesn’t happen to me all that often but I do lose my keys all the time.)

A few weeks ago I wrote a post called “Homeless to Homeowner, How I Did It”.  While I was writing that article, I felt a strong sense of self-motivation.  I felt as though I could overcome any obstacle.  It felt great.

In this 3 minute video, I tell you how you can discover the same inner-strength whenever you want to -  for free.  The only downside is, it may not help you find your keys….I’m still looking for mine.

If you are an email subscriber, please click here to view the video.  If you know someone else who needs to be motivated, I suggest you pass this video along to them.

1 Focus Shift = 93% Fewer Challenges

Are you facing a huge financial challenge?  You know…the kind that seems impossible to overcome.  How are you going to get rid of that debt?  How are you ever going to save enough money to be able to retire? Will my kids be able to attend college?

The numbers seem so big that they become impossible. It’s easy to give up – and feel like a failure.

Well….I’m here to tell you that you never have to feel like a failure.

In this 2 minute  video I give you three effective and practical ideas:

1.  The most important step you need to take today to achieve your goals.

2. How to defeat negative self talk by taking effective action.

3. How to be and feel successful everyday – starting now.

Overcome Your Fear Of Asking For Help

What would it be worth to you if your greatest financial challenge was under control?

What would it mean to you if you stopped procrastinating and started getting things done? How would you feel about yourself if you knew you were doing everything possible to get your financial house in order?

Last week we spoke about procrastination and how it acts like tar to the soul of your feet.  We discussed three steps that make procrastination a thing of the past.  One of the most important steps in slaying the procrastination beast is having an accountability partner.  Have you spoken with your partner yet or are you still procrastinating?

If you are delaying, I can understand why.  It’s very difficult to ask for help.  It exposes a vulnerability.  It’s frightening.

But having an accountability partner is the single most powerful thing you can do if you are serious about getting your finances in order.

Here is a quick 4 minute video giving you step-by-step instructions on how to get over your fear, how to identify your accountability partner & how to approach that person.  At the end of this video, I throw down the ultimate Wealth Pilgrim Challenge.  Will you accept my challenge?
