How Estate Planning Basics Made Me Homeless. How To Make Sure It Never Happens To You
By admin on Sep 29, 2009 in Estate Planning
You might already know by reading my story that by the time I was a senior in high-school both my parents passed away.
Before they died, they had an estate plan.
It was to ignore the issue completely. This is basically the plan that many people have.
In fairness to them, they were very young when they died. Nobody expects to go that early.
Still, their lapse left me and my three siblings in a terrifying situation. As a result, our family basically disintegrated. We all went different ways. It was really a tragedy for us.
What I learned is that whenever anyone dies, it’s always too early and people rarely expect it. That’s why estate planning is so important.
I take this issue really personally.
I’ve cornered one of the leading experts in estate planning to get some tips on how you can make sure this kind of tragedy never befalls you, your family or your loved ones.
She’ll also discuss how she became so successful and how other business owners can duplicate her results.
Today at 3 PM PST, you’ll have your opportunity to listen to Alexis Martin Neely on Wealth Pilgrim radio and ask questions.
As America’s Favorite Lawyer, Alexis is the author of the best‐selling how‐to legal planning book for parents (Wear Clean Underwear: A Fast, Fun, Friendly ‐ and Essential Guide to Legal Planning for Busy Parents) as well as the creator of the LIFT Business Foundation System for business owners and was named by Worth Magazine as one of America’s top 100 lawyers.
Alexis’ is regularly featured on CNBC’s On the Money, CNN’s Nancy Grace, Fox’s O’Reilly Factor, NBC’s The Today Show, and will be seen on Good Morning America later this Summer. You may have also heard her on national radio networks such as NPR or Oprah & Friends as well as on websites throughout the Interwebs. You can find her on Twitter @alexisneely and on Facebook at http://Facebook.com/PlayBigWithAlexis
Please join us at 3 PM PST and tell everyone you care about to tune in as well. If you have adult children, I’d recommend the show to them as well. Too much is at stake to ignore this issue.
If you are unable to join us live, you’ll be able to listen to the show at your convenience by clicking over to our radio archive page and scrolling down to the Alexis Martin Neely show.

That is pretty scary. I do agree that deaths come too early, no matter their age, and if you aren’t well prepared, it can cause disaster
Luckily, my parents were finally on board (originally superstitious) and have now dealt with estate planning.

Agreed. Very scary.
But unfortunately all waaaaaaay to common.
I don’t think I’ve met yet in my life more than a mere hand full of people (you can count the number on your fingers) who even have a will much less an estate plan.
Usually the excuse is they don’t think they have enough to worry about to warrant a will or estate plan.
Or frankly they just don’t care! :-O
Makes me mad as hell!
Why?
Normally I’d say it’s their own tough luck for not planning.
But we now live in such a socialized country that we who do make good plans well in advance of needing them will be taxes and penalized to pay for the lazy people who don’t want to be bothered or who find the thought of planning for their inevitable demise too unpleasent to think about!!
Burns me up!!
