Weekend Roundup – “How A Gratitude List Will Save You Mega Bucks” Edition
By admin on Jul 24, 2009 in Family & Finance
When a commercial comes on the T.V. telling you how to “take it to the next level” do you conjure up ideas of shooting the television?
I do.
I’ve always taken offense to someone telling me I had to “take it the next level”. How do they know what level I’m at? What’s wrong with my level? Maybe I like my level!
I write about this for a few reasons:
First, I’ve always disliked the idea of someone who doesn’t really know me telling me I just have to improve my life (using their product of course). This post just gives me an opportunity to rant…. so thanks.
Second, I think that if you and I spend a few minutes each morning creating a quick gratitude list, we’ll see how truly wonderful and full our lives our. We’ll see how much we have. We don’t really need to change levels at all. Sure, we all have areas we need to do better at. But if I create a gratitude list, I’ll be less inclined to waste money trying to fill up those empty spaces that those commercials artificially create.
Our gratitude list reminds us that our lives are pretty darn full ….thank you very much.
Here’s a few items on the list I made this morning:
I am grateful for G-d.
I am grateful that my family is healthy & happy.
I am grateful we have a home.
I am grateful I have wonderful friends.
I am grateful I get to work with really nice people.
I am grateful I haven’t “pulled an Elvis” on my television set.
What are you grateful for today?
Are you willing to take 2 minutes are write it down?
When you think about what’s on your list, does your appetite for “stuff” disappear?
Weekend Roundup:
Would you consider going off the grid with your entire family – kids included? Here’s one story of a family who did. Thanks Frugal Dad.
Another take on the same theme is served up by Digerati Life. Nice….
On a practical note, Moolanomy encourages us to tap those low mortgage rates.
The frugality of walking.….obvious but do you do it enough? Here’s a good list of ideas on how to “find the time” to do something good for yourself. Wisebread…thanks.
MoneyNing asks what you would change about the government. Have fun and share your thoughts.
Accept what is…..yes….. I like this one….
I’m not a drinking man but you might be. How to brew your own beer and save some money! A tasty treat offered by Jeremy over at GenXFinance.
My favorite….Young People Are Already Rich by Monevator!

I love this article; I write a gratitude list, also, and find myself listing the same things everyday – I’m grateful to have one more day on this earth to be with my family; I’m grateful for my children and my health, for my home and my job. Basically, I am grateful for the very basic things in life. I know that alot of other people have it much worse than me, so I am truly grateful for what I have. When I start feeling down in the dumps, I look around me and remind myself that I have everything I need.
